HON 255 Love, Death, & Robots: Three Robots Reflection

I chose to write about Love, Death, & Robots: Three Robots in detail. This episode of volume one of the 2022 Emmy nominee sci-fi/horror tv show. Philip Gelatt, the tv show writer, worked alongside John Scalzi who wrote these original stories while Victor Maldonado and Alfredo Torres directed under Blow Studio. This episode portrays three robots entering a post-apocalyptic city for what they consider to be a vacation. They tour the city and sightsee because there are no humans, they seem to take on the role of humans by doing what humans would have done. They embody humans’ personalities and reactions to their findings. Each robot comes from a different line of electronics such as baby monitors. There is the tall human shaped robot (XBOT 4000), a smaller doll like robot, and a wider triangular bot(11-45-G) with a monotone voice like Alexa or Siri. The triangular bot takes selfies with a dead cheerleader and does a cheer with her old pompoms. The smaller bot finds a basketball or as he calls it “the entertainment sphere” and gets excited to experience human things for the first time. They try to understand human culture throughout their trip. The animation in this episode is very intriguing and captivating. The motion picture is very colorful, but also very smooth on the eyes. It looks very realistic, the number of consecutive images displayed on the screen every few seconds is amazing. The motion picture images have great resolution and are very detailed and intricate from the big buildings in the city skyline to gymnasium, old diner, military base etc. The message behind this episode is very powerful. When the robots come across the old military base the triangular bot informs the other bots that poisoned the land and water and did nothing to prevent global warming from destroying the world therefor emphasizing humans’ negligence causing their destruction. In this episode, the animals are still alive, and the cats reveled that they were in fact responsible for the downfall of humans because humans did not meet their needs in terms of attention and needs. The animation in this episode utilizes photo-real 3D animation and the use of motion capture and audio motion and a mix of hand-drawn and computer-generated scenes. With the advancements of technology in today’s world, the development of animation is truly incredible. The animation portrayed in this show creates a space of entertainment and imagination and creates an augmented reality where the writers and artists share this creative experience with viewers.
