HON 255- Ready Player 1 Presentation Notes

 EXPLANATION:

My neighbor Gabe plays Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

He met someone who avatars name is Champ1

His is from Ontario Canada he met him through the game, he goes to UMass Amherst

Champ1 is a character everyone can choose, personally this person did not personalize the way his avatar looks, but he did customize his username, but he can if he wanted to (so his avatar is one of the most used characters available to pick to play the game -usual name is ghost)

When asked the difference between his avatar and him he said that his avatar is in the military and never shows his face because he always wears a black and white Skelton mask

His avatar is very violent, and he when Gabe asked Champ1 (aka Pablo) how he is in life he said he was a very laidback but outgoing and funny person he said he makes a lot of friends online because of this it’s easy for him to talk to people online

In real life he is 20 years old, and a finance major, he’s not in the military like his avatar is

PERSONAL CONNECTION:

Virtual Reality (VR)- interactive content (through images or videos) which enable viewers to explore the entirely of 360 degrees of a scene

My major is elementary education, in recent years with technology becoming more prevalent in education and classroom throughout the world, virtual reality has also made its way into the classroom (making use of breakthrough technology as mediums of schooling especially in universities and other higher institutes of learning)

Through virtual reality experiences, students are encouraged to interact with each other, they can be eager to share

VR can bring curriculum to life through virtual field trips, immersive education through virtual reality applications in schools

It is accessible to all students if possible and easily monitored by teachers, VR engages students in a unique and powerful way

Virtual field trips give younger children exposure to the real world without having to leave the school, there is so many VR apps such as Google Expedition, Titians of Space etc. where students can enjoy interactive visits to places and times of long ago (ALL OF WHICH ARE ACCESSIBLE, COST EFFECTIVE, INFORMATIVE)

In special education the use of textbooks or other very traditional mediums of instructions are not as effective and are often time unproductive for students who need more hands-on learning methods, with the introduction of VR students in special education have the potential to become more interested and responsive to what they are learning (in ways that are easier for them to express)

VR can also be utilized via an immersive classroom, where images are projected onto the internal walls of the classroom creating a virtual environment within the class

Compared to traditional methods of teaching and learning in education, VR presents endless opportunities in the field of education

-it can make learning more interesting

-adds a new level of learning to lessons

-makes demonstration of practical skills easier

-can inspire students, sparks the imagination and encourages creative thinking

-promotes peer interaction

-creates an inclusive classroom
